The October Calendar of CCIS & Community Speaker Events

The PRG’s Monthly Calendar is a selective list of Northeast Ohio speaker events on the topics of parenting and educating school-age children. Only talks that appear to be evidence-based and open to an audience wider than the host school are listed. While community-at-large events are included for member schools’ convenience, they are neither sponsored nor endorsed by CCIS. This calendar is also posted under the “NE Ohio Community Events” link @ www.ccis-ohio.org. *The PRG is a committee of CCIS, whose role is to share member resources with schools, students and their parents.

Birchwood School, The Birchwood Project

“A Parent’s Guide to Identifying and Developing Potential in Gifted Children”

Historically the education of gifted children has taken a back in the overall scheme of K-12 education. Furthermore, under the No Child Left Behind mandate, the education of gifted children has been overlooked. In attempting to raise the achievement scores of all students, the mandate inadvertently ignored the needs of the brightest. The fact remains, however, that parents still play the most vital role in identifying and developing children’s potential and consequently there is much work that they can do.
