“A Parent’s Guide to Identifying and
Developing Potential in Gifted Children”
Historically the education of gifted children has taken a back in the overall scheme of K-12 education. Furthermore, under the No Child Left Behind mandate, the education of gifted children has been overlooked. In attempting to raise the achievement scores of all students, the mandate inadvertently ignored the needs of the brightest. The fact remains, however, that parents still play the most vital role in identifying and developing children’s potential and consequently there is much work that they can do.
